Change Is Good!!
Dear Friends,
Exactly, Eighty Eight years ago, Sir C V Raman Published his paper "New Theory of Radiation", this paper indeed fetched nobel prize and made India proud. This day is celebrated as National Science Day in India, Normally we celebrate it on 28th Feb. What was his work all about is a quest in my mind.
His work told me that, When ever you find yourselves lazy/you seem to be clueless are cornered, Just trigger your mind, a change would make you work forward for better results. What do I mean by these words? I will just come back with it.
Ramans theory on scatering was new because, his idea was on inelastic scattering, i.e., the kinetic energy of the incident beam is not conserved. When things are consereved we come accross a concept of neither gain nor loss, Similarly when an energy is said to be conserved then the energy of scattered photon is equal to the energy of incident photon which is called as Rayleigh line. When things are not conserved, then there can be either gain/loss.. If the scatter photon undergoes loss in energy due to absorption of incident photon then it corresponds to stokes line, where as gain corresponds when an atom or a molecule loses its energy which turns out to be an increase in the energy of scattered photon. These lines are called as anti-stokes which has less intensity. These things are just like an art of getting things done. Say, For molecules like Nitrogen, Hydrogen and almost all the symmetric molecule which does not have permanent dipole moment have failed to record rotational transition lines. We wanted to analyse and understand what exactly happens with these lazy fellows who don't move at all. Here, we land up into a concept called Polarizability which is the degree of scattering. When a monochromatic source of light is incident on such lazy fellows(the permanent dipole moment guys), it experiences a change in frequency which there by results in a change in dipole moment, i.e., he slightly moves because he is influenced by the incident electromagnetic radiation. This is nothing but induced dipole moment.
The Story behind atoms and molecules reveals that if we are just idle, then we may probably end up doing nothing. If we are hyperactively participating in all the activities, we may probably end up doing nothing. If we are completely inactive and we damn care on whatever things are happening around, we may probably end up doing nothing.
Life is short and we need to just run around and work hard. Running around doesn't mean that me must physically run around. If you are a theorteician then you gotta run around the equations. Exection to the problem created is important. At certain stages, we do get restless and our mind attains idle state/blank state. That may also result in making/projecting us dumb. During such times, our brain tells us to meet people and seek guidance. Guide will induce with an idea, there by we again change our routine way of working. That is the place where we could get better results/our understanding gets better.
Bottom Line: When ever you are struck, Think of Raman's Scattering, Get Induced (Influenced by your motivation) and restart your process.

Rayleigh scattering, No change in wavelength.
Stokes Scattering: Results, in change of wavelength, where the energy of scattered photon is lesser than the energy of incident photon.
Anti-Stokes Scattering: Results in change of wavelength where the energy of scattered photon is more than the energy of incident photon.

The paper which made us proud..
#RamanLivesOn: Whenever we try to find solutions for Lazy fellows.
